Rolling Mandu Has Finally Arrived in LA

Have you heard of Rolling Mandu?

Short for “rolling dumplings,” this Korean snack is made by carefully hand-rolling the filling into round, bite-sized balls. Unlike the typical dumplings you may be familiar with, these have no flour-based wrapper and are translucent, chewy, and packed with flavor.

Recently, two successful Rolling Mandu pop-up events were held at MarkEat8 in Los Angeles. They were both organized and sponsored by Alex Sohn, CEO of ALMG Hospitality, whose vision was to introduce an authentic taste of North Korea’s Pyeongan-do region.

At the pop-up, guests enjoyed:

• Flourless, chewy rolling mandu made from a traditional North Korean recipe
• Busan grandmother-style garak-guksu (thick noodle soup)
• Affordable convenience store-inspired snacks, canned soju, beer, wine, and chips

While indoor seating is available, many guests chose to sit outside in the spacious patio, recreating the casual and nostalgic feel of a Korean street bar (pocha).
