As a Korean-American millennial, I grew up overseas with K-pop shaping a big part of my world. It all started with the first-gen groups like H.O.T., S.E.S., and Fin.K.L that first got me hooked. Being the youngest (well, almost the youngest) on both sides of my family — most of my cousins were born in 1985 or earlier — I naturally looked up to them and the K-pop idols they admired.
Fast forward to now, the industry has exploded. There are just so many groups, and honestly, it’s overwhelming at times. I still remember someone from an entertainment company once telling me that there are literally hundreds of small agencies that open and shut down overnight — sometimes in just a day.
So here’s what I want to do: instead of covering every little update (there are plenty of sites for that), I’ll be sharing the big-picture news that matters — from the perspective of a Korean-American millennial. Think of this as your “what you need to know to keep up” feed. Koreans in the motherland are famously 예민해 (sensitive) about trends and move at lightning speed when it comes to setting them.
This blog is my way of helping you catch the wave without drowning in details.
